Biography
No, I’m not a technology teacher…..but I’m a language arts teacher and soon-to-be counselor who sees great value in the integration of technology into all subject areas and grade levels as a means to motivate students and develop technological literacy. I haven’t been interested in or proficient with technology for long, but during my teaching tenure at the American School of Kuwait, I had numerous resources available to me as well as colleagues who inspired me to start experimenting with technology in my classroom. I started out small with a classroom webpage and a weekly blogging assignment for my students, but since then I’ve been learning about the numerous ways technology can be used in K-12 classrooms
Since returning to graduate school at the University of Regina, I have had the privilege to work on the Digital Internship Action Research Project which is working to help pre-service teachers intregrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in their classroom. I have learned a great deal from my colleagues and the students in this project and I have had the opportunity to share my learnings with others.
The integration of technology in the classroom is an exciting area to be working in as new software and technologies emerge daily. Developing students’ technological literacies and using this medium to motivate students and enhance their learning is a challenging, yet rewarding endeavor.
